Harm Reduction Platform Netherlands (HARP)
Harm reduction has long been proven as an effective strategy to address and limit the risks associated with (injecting) drug use. Recognising the continued need to uphold harm reduction as a high priority in public health discussions, several like-minded Dutch organisations established the Harm Reduction Platform Netherlands—or HARP—in October 2007.
The members of HARP are:
- AIDS Foundation East-West (AFEW)
- Asian Harm Reduction Network (AHRN) / Response International
- Consultancy Tanne de Goei
- Health Connections International (HCI)
- Mainline Foundation
- Drugs & Democracy Project, Transnational Institute
- Trimbos Institute.
HARP members work together to advocate for increased attention to and funding for harm reduction activities, both in the Netherlands and across the world in the countries in which each organisation works.
HARP’s Mission
The mission of the Harm Reduction Platform Netherlands is:
- to encourage politicians, policy makers and civil society in the Netherlands to maintain the harm reduction agenda as a top priority in Dutch development co-operation and to support and finance harm reduction programmes and services; and
- to strengthen the Dutch leadership position in international advocacy for increased resources enabling the policy environment for harm reduction.
